Upskill & Re-Focus
The pandemic has given ASB the opportunity to upskill in areas highly relevant to the needs of the 21st century student, and to break key aspects of the traditional model of schooling.
In this context of re- and up-skilling, certain aspects of the school experience—those that receive focus, attention, and emphasis in the curriculum—can be placed into three dynamic and evolving categories.
1.

3.
Descendant
(DO LESS)
Any activity that promote slow-level engagement.
- Transfer of content
- Memorization & regurgitation
- Teacher as the center of attention
- Consuming info via screen-time
- Technology as substitution
- Traditional sit-down exams
- Keeping order and control
Re-prioritize
ASB is poised to meet these challenges by improving upon what already exists in the student experience. However, these efforts will also require ample doses of courage, innovation, and positive disruption to long-held beliefs about how curriculum, instruction, and assessment should function in the school setting (i.e. the so-called “traditional approach to education”). As such, we have the urgent and exciting opportunity to promote the ASB Agenda, for the express benefit of ASB’s students.
1.
Elevate
Well-being
Each and every community member can thrive— be happy, healthy, and successful (The One Thing). To support and feed into The One Thing, we will commit to the following strategic priorities…
2.
Sustain an Inclusive Experience
Sustain an inclusive, equitable, and just (JEDI) school and professional experience.
3.
Calibrate Individualized Learning
Calibrate the learning experience to meet the dynamic needs of each individual student.
4.
Empower Student-driven Learning
Empower students to drive and co-create key aspects of their learning experience.
5. ESTABLISH
HOST-COUNTRY CONNECTIONS
Establish authentic connections between the school and our host-country.
What would a successful ASB Agenda look like?
With a rapidly changing world, schools have an academic urgency to evolve in a way that ensures maximum relevancy and the full delivery of its mission. Simply put, striving to become a better version of ourselves is the right and necessary thing to do, and this generation of students deserves this out of us.
Empowered
Students, staff, and families alike can each “win” through the hard work and courageous actions undertaken to accomplish the goals articulated in the new strategic plan.
Fulfilled
Staff grow, are healthy, happy, and engaged, are proud of their contribution to their school, and feel part of a close and caring community.
Prepared
Students feel and experience all of what staff do, and also feel confident that they are prepared for whatever comes after ASB.
Supported
Families feel appreciation for those working tirelessly for their children, and also draw strength and support from the school community.
Unified
All parties can feel love toward their school and toward each other, and part of a higher purpose.
